The Pillars of Creation kindled life on planet Enderas. Three pillars were forged through fire and impact...a cave, a mountain, a river...and a fourth took root as a tree: the Heart of the Woods. Then the tree hummed and whirred and smoked and- DING! The first Doomling popped out like a gumball. This was Immortal, the final Pillar of Creation.Immortal was a curious ball with fine, tiny tentacles flowing like hair, whose cells continuously reverted her back to her child-state. Also she could teleport a little bit, which was a neat trick. And she always wanted to play. So she took pieces of herself and created children to play with, but they were not immortal. Immortal protected her children from the elements. But try as she might, she couldn't save them forever. Every time Immortal lost a friend, she lost a piece of herself, and she never did get used to it. Then one day she met Joy. Immortal was in love. Not the kissy mushy smushy kind of love. The kind of love that's born when someone holds your heart in their hands. But in the end Joy left Immortal all the same. Immortal mourned the loss of her friend for a hundred years, until one day a Doomling asked, "Why do we die?" Immortal did not know. She vowed to travel the cosmos in search of an answer. Immortal was leaving, and she knew her children would have to adapt. But they could not survive alone. So she placed a piece of herself at the altar of the Heart of the Woods. She told her children that should the Pillars of Creation ever sense the coming of a world-ending catastrophe, the tree would hum and whir and smoke and- DING! A powerful Doomling would pop out of the tree like a gumball. This Doomling would have specific abilities that would save the world from the coming disaster. It would be AWESOME. And with that, Immortal held her breath, puffed out her chest, and exhaled. Then ~pip~! She vanished.
